Unlisted and animation director Tom O’Meara, in collaboration with Mother Shanghai and Passion Pictures, have created a heartwarming stop-motion spot for Woolmark.
The film, echoing the wistful charm of a children’s fairy tale, tells the story of a young boy who yearns for hope and renewal upon discovering a ravaged forest with his grandfather.
Revealing his flare for nuanced storytelling, O’Meara weaves this story against a lush, textural backdrop crafted entirely from wool. “Creating a fairytale about wool with Woolmark has been a treasured journey”, he shared. “Stop-motion animation, with its charm and craftsmanship, was the perfect medium.”
The collaborating agency team shared this desire for the delicately crafted nature of the film to reflect the ethos of the Woolmark brand. Winson and Wanshi, creatives at Mother Shanghai, observed, “The meticulousness required for stop motion mirrors the patience and attention our world needs. Whether in art or in life, there’s an unmatched beauty in endeavors that take time, heart, and soul.”
Says Anita Emor, Unlisted executive producer: “The film is an homage to Australian wool growers and their cherished merino flocks. Telling their story comes with a burden of responsibility and respect that our director Tom understood implicitly, and took very seriously. We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to use his considerable talents as a storytelling vessel for such a beloved heritage brand."
